New Leg For Uche

UCHE is a young vibrant guy who had his leg crushed in a ghastly automobile accident almost two years ago. He eventually lost his leg due to poor medical facilities within his locality. He had contemplated suicide but with divine intervention, he’s gradually turning his life around.
Due to Uche’s past medical expenses, he and his siblings, who are orphans, are currently out of school.
Uche has discovered his passion for life despite his circumstances and he aspires to having a career in the music industry.
Uche needs a prosthetic leg. You can help Uche by contributing  towards procuring this much needed aid.

Versatile Blogger Award

I would like to appreciate bjgaulton : Toutons Tubas and Other Tales for for nominating me for this award. Thank you so much.

I was born and raised in Nigeria in Ibadan. I studied English at the University of Ibadan in Nigeria . I love writing, reading, teaching, exploring and shopping. I like making people happy, kids and nature. I love watching sunset. I dislike injustice, oppression and discrimination of any kind.

Blogging to me is a medium of expressing my thoughts, feelings and opinion. It is a way to socialize and connect with different people over the world through the web.
I found blogging or it found me at a time when I was almost caught off from the rest of the world. When my social life was reduced to zero, through it I was able to vent, reconnect and heal. I have met so many people who share the same passion and dream with me and they have helped and encouraged me a lot.
Blogging has helped me to improve my writings, overcome blocks, procrastination and be engaged in something meaningful.

Shade of Blue

Olufunke Kolapo

nostalgicUnderneath this same
shade of blue,
I made houses
of sand and sticks,
boxes and weeds;
stuffed doll
strapped on my back
with mother’s head-tie.

I played house with
friends and siblings
pots of cans
soup of mushrooms
and water leaves
I watched ants
appear and disappear
into tiny holes.

I skinned my knees

and bruised my toes

I played hide and seek
in the open yard,
rain or sunshine
jumping ropes
and climbing trees.

I smiled and cheered
without reservation.
I sobbed and wailed
when sad or hurt
no shame or pretence.
I miss my younger self.

What Lies On Distant Shores

Black and Write

What lies on distant shores,

Buckets, pigeon holes, troughs for segregation.

Language, dress, birthplace do not an enemy make.

Where came this bitter misdirection?

Religion, culture, song, dance,

These are things of man’s creation.

Strip naked man and woman–

Lay them bare of their mortal inventions.

Confiscate their language, dress, birthplace,

Expropriate their religion, culture, song, dance,

Take all they have of this world;

What have they left?

Blood and skin and bone;

That which crumbles with inevitable death.

Hopes and dreams, emotions;

intangibles that define humanness.

Air, food, water, shelter;

That which sustains us.

Boundaries of man hold no sway over these.

We are but one species,

Born and consumed in life,

Until the day we return home

To the dust from whence we came.

Love Poem

Ancient Skies

Love Poem

We went shopping for an iron

that day, and bought a ring.

Two lost souls,

looking at each other eye to eye,

rubbing noses together.

Blankets and a kitchen,

cars with high mileage now,

and yet, she still rubs my back,

and I melt.

I give her treasure from the deep blue sea.

She rubs her fingers through my hair,

and blinds me – with herself,

I run into walls just looking at her.

30 years later the store is still there,

selling irons.

And we are still rubbing noses together.
